    Tailgate up...

Back in the good old 70's everyone used to drive around all the time with their tailgates up, whether they had a nice interior or not, stereo blasting, not a care in the world. Those of you that were there will remember.

I live in a small coastal village with a couple of good beaches and I like to run with it open on a warm day just to perpetuate history I suppose, but I'm the only bloke around with a van on the road and I don't see anyone else with a van except during holiday time.

So does anyone run with the tailgate up?

I used to back in the day to rob but the fumes used to make your eyes water sometimes unless your front windows were up

Didn't seem to bother us but, did it?

My wife won't have a bar of it, I have to shut it when she's in the van, but if the windows are up and the aircon or ventilation is on I don't notice any fumes.

It's just cool, brings back a lot of memories (I'm having trouble growing up!)

yes big rob im old too, but never saw the attraction of having the tailgate up unless you had a heap of people in the back and then only with the windows wound up and the vents open and fan on. My old van was windowless with curtains in the back,so the only way to see behind you was the mirrors and surprisingly i got used to it and could park it easier than my HT sedan

Funny how things change gene, when i met my wife we had my van,my HT kingswood and her toyota corona and none of them had air cond so we always had the windows down in summer and spring, but now i have a VE calais and she has a VZ SV6 both with power windows and i cant even get to the end of the driveway with the window down and when we go out in the old girls the first thing she says is wind the window up its too noisy

I dunno, I've found that we're all too old to care about now. It's the imports and vns that seem to be on the hitlist.
