You could try Brasso or toothpaste, we used to use those on plastic models of planes, boats, cars etc that were built out of kits when I was a kid.

Platic is hard to re-chrome, but it can be done. Best bet is to turf the grille and get one with a stainless surround, those SL/E grilles were a pain for that, I remember them being buggered as used items in the 80's and when Rare Spares still had them NOS as late as the 90's they were often pitted in some places when you got them new.

While I like the SL/E grill it has no place on an original Sandman. Then again it only a few self tappers.
Autosol metal polish works great on plastic, same is true for Blue Magic and most likely all metal polishes.
Don't dismiss until you try it for yourself.

My version of Turf is to hang it on the shed wall as an ornament! As I said before I had NOS ones of these and couldn't give them away, yet everyone wants the NOS HX-HZ Statesman grilles I have in boxes. Oz got really big $ for HJ Statesman grilles NOS too.

Sod that, it's YOUR van, nobody elses. Make it look the way YOU want it to look.

I know Alien would be more than impressed if you put an HQ front on it....

I'd stick it on the wall wrapped in gladwrap and put on a good used HZ grille painted black. If you hit a bird or low flying cat no-one will miss an old HZ grille. Whilst the SL/E grilles are hard to sell they are still rare and not easy to replace.
