    Door Hinge compound?

Can anyone help me with advice on what the compound that went between the door hinges and the body was? Or a good substitute? There was definitely something there once, probably spread pretty thin, and then just pushes out around the edges. Whatever it was seems to stop rust occurring between the hinge and the body. My parts are all clean and first coats painted now and ready to assemble, I'm thinking of using windscreen sealant, but it sets too hard I think, needs more elasticity?

Dripcheck maybe? Same stuff along the top of the firewall. It is a 3M product.

You may need to thin the drip check down with some prepsol or something so that it squeezes out of under the hinge enough to form a seal around the hinge mating area and to allow the attach bolts to snug the hinge mating face had against the pillar so that the bolts wont come loose.

Non hardening windscreen sealer or mastic.

I've used a brush on seam sealer, I think it was U-pol brand. It's basically thinned down drip check!
It ends up very similar to the compound that you originally find between door hinges and the body, just brush it on thinly and bolt together.

Yep, that'll work fine. At one stage GMH used mastic, but I reckon they swapped around a bit depending on where the body was made and what product was cheapest at the time. I've found different stuff in similar aged cars, so who knows? What you're using will be spot-on anyway.
Vans.... This is the 2nd time round the block, 40 years later! talk about turning back the clock!
