Its the can type VDO sensor.. It was retail $80, $60 trade price.. I have an original one on the 308 in the shed, I'll chuck that on and see what it does..

If they are mechanics half worth their title they'll be more than happy to help you out, and to see you having a real go yourself. Trouble is the young ones today are used to plugging in a machine that tells them the problem. They rarely ever have to diagnose it themselves.
Yeah, I'll take it in and get them to have a look at it and see what they think Hopefully they'll have a bit of an idea on what the go is
    Cheers,

Well I've got a few possibles. I spoke to a mechanic at work - turns out that he was an engine builder for GMH in the 80's - and he had a listen to it, and said that because the 'tick, tick, tick wasn't there upon start up, it could be - but is very unlikely - oil pressure related.
But the 3 things that he could think of that it sounds like is either a lobe has been damaged/worn on the cam, the bottom of the lifters being worn or one (or more) pushrods with mushroomed ends.. :/

I'm gonna do some more investigating and see what I can find out But I'm making progress
    Cheers,
    Matt

You should have seen this when you had the rocker cover off. There would have been some rockers that had way more clearance than others. Plus a lobe gone will make it miss all the time.

That's it, none of them had any clearance at all.. and its not really missing all the time either.. I would probably bet that the lifters are rounded on the ass end... I'll see what I find when I pull it apart on the weekend..
    Cheers,
