Is this a genuine HJ sandman ute?

    Hi Guys

Just wondering if anyone could help me establish whether or not this HJ is infact a Sandman. I have limited information but what I do have is listed below.. any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

    Serial: 8N80REH349205J
    Model: HJ8WN80
    Body No: 3492050
Shift: Pretty sure its a console but I'll have to check.
    Trim: 1898 18V
    Seat capacity: 2
GVM: 2200kg (apparently Sandmans came out with this reduced GVM)
VIN: Only have the VIN from the rego papers which does not correspond to the same car for some reason?
    Paint Code: 56715944

    Cheers, Jack

If it hasn't got XX7 on the BODY plate after the model code it isn't. It can't be console shift originally unless it is a Sandman.

2200kg isn't a reduced GVW, that is a normal V9 HJ commercial GVW which all Sandmans were until passenger tyres became optional late in 1975.

See if you can get the chassis number off the ADR plate, should be BHJ12xxxB, probably in the 100's or 200's for the xxx.

Still a pretty cool ute, a V8 HJ Kingswood ute in Deauville Blue with slate black trim.

Great. Thanks very much for the response! I'm going to head down and check out the shift status. Is it true that original Sandmans had shorter vins than other vehicles?? As the vin we have isn't as long as normal ones.

As you said, still a cool ute either way, we just wouldn't mind finding out for sure before we sell it, just in case we're selling a gold mine for bottle tops.

It isn't a Sandman without XX7, so looking at console mounts is irrelevant. VIN looks normal to me, and no Sandmans are identical in VIN to all other mid HQ onwards until VL.
