    Interior Leak

    Hey everyone

Winter has hit and I have discovered a leak in the interior of my HJ Panelvan.

It is in the Passenger side footwell, on the firewall.

Im confused and I have no idea where it could be coming from.

Is this a common problem, anyone encountered this before?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

You might have a build up of leaves and dirt in the plenum chamber causing an overflow into the fresh air inlet, have seen that a couple of times. Failing that look at all of the common areas, around the heater box, the guard bolts that are internal in the cabin must have a good seal on them. Sometimes the drip check can get old and crumbly along the front edge of the firewall and can leak into the footwell. I know this sounds odd, but is there any water being retained in the closest door to where the water is getting in?

Everyone would have encountered that one. There's a rubber hose that drains water from the scuttle and out behind the guard. It runs right through that area and the rubber can deteriorate. Worst case you could also have rust in the lower scuttle panel as well.

Extremely common. Caused either by a rust hole in the plenum or a blocked drain tube or entry to the drain tube (big white sausage that runs from the plenum to the side of the car between the firewall and the door hinge pillar) or a combination of both. If it is coming down the firewall it is more than an even chance the plenum has rusted where it bends upwards to join the firewall.

Is the plenum the same as the cowl/ scuttle?

Also just a thought, your heater core may have started leaking, if it's been turned off all summer and you dont use inhibtor fluid it may of rusted out or sprung a leak.

Feel up behind the glove box in the heater box or take the fan motor out in the engine bay and feel for dampness, or is the floor still wet when its not raining

We had this problem with our yellow van it turned out that we had a tiny hole along the seam in the firewall up where the guard bolts on. I spent hours squirting water at the van while Rodney laid on the floor in the van looking at where water was gaining access. It was all painted and guards on so off it all came carefully then we cleaned it with wire brush then seam sealed and repinted seam. All fine now.
