HX Heater help required

Just removed the heater core that busted in 1989, and have am wondering if the rarespares heater cores are any good or should I get the original fixed? And there is black silicone all around the heater box where it joins to the firewall is that just a selleys job or is there a specific holden black silicone? thanx dave

The black stuff is "mastic" not silicone. Available from auto paint suppliers and probably Holden themselves.
Heater core can be repaired and pressure tested. Get a quote and compare with the cost of new.

Any radiator place should be able to get you a new one.The sealant is to stop fumes from coming into the car,i used windscreen sealant on mine,if you use silicone it will be very hard to get it off if you need to

This is the closest thread I could find. I'm seeking advice on the exact placement of a heater tap on my HX 253 (non air-con). I would like it to sit in the factory position. Any advice/pictures welcomed!

Thanks Nocturne, exactly what I was after. Does the heater tap float or is it fixed to the engine?

Hi Paul; the tap isn't connected or supported to anything other than the hoses. The 'S' shaped clip holding the heater hoses together helps keep the setup firm. The (rusty) clip is shown on mine on the heater hoses in front of the air cleaner snorkel.
