    HZ donor car

    Located in Cranbourne, $6200

Too dear for a donor at the asking price, and probably won't sell as it isn't an original 5.0L car. But if he gets desperate and you could but it for say $4500 it may have good donor value for a late HZ Sandman with 63C trim resto:

Seats, console, door trims, kickpanels, carpet, complete dash and column other than fascia.
    Aircon.
Complete 308, TH400, T-bar, radiator, power steering (engine number itself is early HX).

Sell the disc brake back end, back doors if they are any good, and maybe use the front guards and bonnet.

For a rebuilt complete 308 and TH400 ready to bolt in with extractors, power steer and new radiator you'd have to look at a value of $2500.
The whole interior inc dash you'd have to factor costing you close to $2000 as this is the only way you are going to get them this good without getting new repro stuff.
All adds up quickly if you have bought a bare shell Sandman project.
And you could drive it home, regoed until 2014.

I highly doubt anybody cares if a HZ Kingswood is factory L31. The 308 in there and working and it was factory V8 from factory.
Not a collectible or desirable car in my eyes. As a cool old shopping trolley or parts car, I see your point.

I dont know about that, as they say they not making any more of them, most where treated like crap, i think people would look at a low klm 5.0litre turbo 400 HZ kingo or prem as starting to get collectable, if not now maybe in a couple of years. look at the HZ gts you could pick those up easily for under $10k a couple of years ago, try it now.
Also look at the VK SS one of the most gutless V8s holden ever made and some are asking $75k to $100k, personally i think $5k would be to much for any Vk.
    but thats just me.

I suppose some might find a HZ Kingswood interesting or worthwhile. Personally I rate them spares for better, more desirable models.
But your right, somebody has to keep a few around to remind me why I don't rate them. (Taxi)

I've had 2 HZ Kingswoods and I still reckon they are a great car, but yes $6,200.00 is a bit high for a Kingswood needing rust repairs. I it were on carpoint it would probably have a 12g pricetag, I can't believe the prices some idiots ask for basic old holdens.

I've owned more HZ sedans then I care to remember (as with most Holden models of the 1970's). They were a good family car and well priced. But not something I rate as desirable or important.

Each time I look at prices, they just climb higher. Most seller's are just dreamer's though.

Original 5.0L cars are starting to become interesting to collectors who want an old girl but can't see the value in $25k+ for a 5.0L GTS sedan. 5.0L manual HZ Kingswoods were pretty low build, i've heard less than 800. I bought one in 1985 from a Daihatsu yard where it was traded on of all things a turbo Charade. Even in the mid-late 80's I remember how rare it was, I never saw another at the time. Auto examples are probably 3 or 4 times that amount built. If this car in question was a factory L31, M41, disc brake, console shift, U17 instruments, air, steer HZ Kingswood in a nice colour like Dark Carmine Metallic it'd sell for $6200 in a hearbeat. If it wasn't rusty it'd probably go for $10k+.
I agree though, as it presents as a non-original car with rust in the body i'd buy it as a parts car. Without the good trim though it isn't worth more than $3000.

Must admit i wasnt around to see them as a taxi or any holdens really , can just remeber the XD falcons with a million or so klms running around, must admit i am not going out of my way looking for one, i already have the kingswood ute, but iam keeping my eye on a HZ prem original 5.0 with woodgrain gts dash up the road owned by an 87 year old 1 owner from new with 83,000klm on it.

I'd prize the Premier more highly, as it is something more than average.
