    saving aussie cars

Can you imagine australia with no car manufactures? Your children may never buy an aussie built car new! Think about that.
Years ago when we had LESS population we had a viable home grown car market, now with millions more Australians our car market is collapsing.
Before when the car manafacturers announced the car sales for the year we would treat it like a footy match ford holden etc seeing who won the year on sales!
Not going to all political on this and I dont need to be corrected by any learnerd academic , but we need to protect our cars! Bring back the tariffs on imported cars and all government departments buy local! Its a start ! And all this rubbish about the high Aussie dollar? I remember the 70s and our dollar was 120 us and we still had a great car industry!

the winner is the consumer oh and the billions of shitty car dealerships that have now sprung up selling anything from a Maserati to a Great wall or Cherry

sure some new jobs have been created for detailers and salesmen but its still the 80/20 rule of 20% of the fat cats getting 80% of car sales

I'm almost 33 and I've never bought a new car, aussie or otherwise...

    I get your point though.

Yeah Gene, I'm not in a hurry to be honest. The only debt I have is my mortgage, I'd like to keep it that way so barring a lotto win I doubt I'll ever buy a brand new one.

The newest car I've owned is my current daily VS lol. That said I've owned a fair few cars, all aussie bar one, and all Holden bar two.

I've never owned a new car either, and lotto is one way for me, I gotta remember to buy the tickets though, lol.

That said, I do buy some parts direct from Holden, not many, but some,.... let me see now, there was an ignition lock barrell (same price as the nice parts one, but substantially improved, longer key more teeth, it said GM USA on it though), a set of NOS upper contol arm bushes (didnt use as the Nolethane ones were better), an NOS two way heater valve (cheaper than anyone else at the time, still working fine) some gearbox bits back in the day when I still had the Tory, um,... and indicator return springs... but its all gotta help!
