Tail lights in, back end finished

Made up a 9mm MDF floor and covered it with carpet both sides. Didnt want to scratch the painted floor

This will keep a bit of the noise down.

Floor all done and side inspection panels on

Time to get the cabin area in some sort of order

    The under lay being installed

Carpet in and locating the seat and belt holes.

Dont know if anyone else has tried this but cutting the bolt holes was no fun, hacking through the carpet and underlay and making square holes even with sharp knives is tuff. I made it 1/2 way throught the first hole and thought there must be a better way.

So I grabbed a screw driver and a gas bottle, I heated the screw driver until it glowed red and pushed it through the carpet and underlay marked out with the other screw drivers.
It melted the carpet and underlay in a perfect circle big enough to get the bolt in....... quickly
Best thing it melted the carpet so there was no fraying like a cut edge, just a nice round edged hole.

Anytime you can use fire to rebuild your project its all good.

I hate seeing speakers in doors , kick panels etc and this was not the sort of build to have them showing so I fabricated up some panels to install the 6x9 behind the seats in that unused cavityc area.

I never wanted it to have HUGE sounds so these will work perfect.

The dark black that can be seen below the shifter is heavy duty velcro. I didnt like the way the carpet fitted around the tunnel so i chopped it to form and used the hook part of the velcro to hold it together

    Kicker 6x9

Still managed to keep the jack, brace and handle behind the seat along with the speakers

I know its to late now but the best way to make the holes for the seats and belts is a soldering iron
works perfectly and leaves a nice finish on the hole

basically thats what I did but didnt ruin my soldering iron, just a old screw driver. I had never heard of it before

I have a set of wad punches ( sort of a punch with a sharp hollow centre in various sizes) that are great for cutting holes in most materials including carpet. I used them for doing the new carpet in my van and it was pretty simple. I just marked where the hole needed to be in chalk, them stuck a block of wood under the carpet and punched the hole.

The soldering iron/screwdriver idea is pretty good too.....
Vans.... This is the 2nd time round the block, 40 years later! talk about turning back the clock!

Great progress, thanks for sharing your ideas too.

I like the speaker location, so I've locked this one away for when the time comes.
