Thread: Grunt's Papaya HX Sandman 18v 308 4 speed Project

Time to pull the motor and strip back the front end for a clean up

While in doing it I have decieded to change the rat trap clutch setup to a late HZ full cable type. When I inspected the rat trap there were bits cut off and welding of sorts going on . I also think the later clutch will have a better feel.

Was happy to see after I ground all the muck off there were no cracks and no accident repairs. everything looked great

Need to find a home for all these new bits

I bought another set of upper and lower wishbones and got these sandblasted and then powder coated and and decked them out. Saved heaps of time having these already done

No im only using Nolothane on the bump stops and sway bar ends. All the rest is regular rubber on the pivot joints. From past experience if you use Nolothane on these I fount the bumps too harsh. The red caps / cover on the ball joints are a urethane which rerplace the rubber ones. These will not split and keep all the grease in and the dirt out....... thats the theory

Similar, im using KBS Rust Seal http://www.kbs-coatings.com.au/kbs-rustseal The guy who makes this is Australian and he developed the POR-15. The RustSeal seems to be good stuff, dont get it on your hands takes forever to get off

ive used kbs on a low intensity residential application and found it to be rubbish. just my opinion. wouldn't use it unless it was on interior side of floor pans or something similar

haven't tried POR15 yet but that will be the next port of call i think

Well I will see in a few years at the end of the day it is only a urethane paint, not too may mysteries. It has stuck very well, ive dropped spanners on it etc and not flaking or cracking. Each to their own in the end and time will tell.

Still better im sure than all the scratched flaking factoru paint, dirt and grease that was there before

no doubt it will come up trumps Grunt. It looks unreal so far

KBS self-levels really well so I might use the remainder on some GTS wheels and brush the black parts

Dont forget the paint has no UV protection so needs to be put where the sun dont shine or over painted if its going to get sun.
