Holden VE Commodore named best Australian-built car in history

    http://www.news.com.au/national-news...-1226621956105

HOLDEN'S VE Commodore has been voted the best car built in Australian history by influential motoring magazine Wheels.

Introduced in 2006 and with what the judges described as core virtues of strength, spaciousness and sophistication, the Commodore took the award ahead of the Ford Territory, launched in 2004, and the BA Ford Falcon XR6 turbo, launched in 2002.

Wheels said while the VE Commodore had its faults it deserved to be at the top of the pile for its design, engineering, value and versatility.

    What are your thoughts??

Yup, we have a VE Sportswagon as our shopping trolley.
Been quite reliable and generally a good car. But like they say, it's not without fault.

VE deserved this, it's a pretty amazing car for the price, safe and practical for a family, and goes like the clappers if you want it to, and it looks so good, especially the sports wagon.

Also, VF has alraedy been 'launched' and is scheduled to be available to customers around June, the rumour is they are still deciding on final drivetrain stuff, the body shape gets some pretty changes, I reckon it looks sweet. They are doing a 'media drive launch' next month, for any interested in the shape, heres some links:

had an 08 SS 6-speed ute. junk pile.

couldnt see out the back and had horror blind spot. noisy diff, clunky gearbox or thrust bearing (un diagnosed) faulty traction button or electrics that saw the entire dash cluster changed, shat a power steering pump etc etc and this is all inside of 10,000 and under 50,000 on the dash!

Went like a cut snake and handled OK. that's it

    Won't buy another one

i think the VS commodore is the best 1990's car made by a mile, they are starting to be worth more than VT's now..
and the 179 EH holden deserves a spot too...

i agree we bought a VS new and never had a problem with it .my son has it now and has put VZ ssz wheels on it and a decent stereo and has just bought a series 2 calais front bumper with fog lights for it .they are very popular with the young guys, reminds me of when we had our EH,HR HTs etc .Last year i had a look at VS senator with 106000 ks for 11 grand but i took too long to decide and it sold within 2 days ,i was quite happy to sell my ss torana to buy it.

I'd agree with that. VS are a cracker of a car with all the right lines and good solid components. Wish I'd never gotten rid of my VS Statesman.

must say I reckon the VZ was great car, i had the adventra and the ss, i prefered the VZ looks to the VE.
My VE ss had a few electrical problems only minor, dash and console lights, apart from that ok and went like the clappers.
I also think the VS in its final guise was a cracker.

Personally I don't like the VE Commodores. I'd rather have an FG XR6 (or XR6 Turbo), or and XR8 as a daily! The only Commodores I have ever liked is a VH SLE or the VZ utes.

The FG Falcons just feel much nicer, and drive so well at both low and high speeds. The XR6 Turbo's are simply vicious! They can cruise around at low speeds quietly and smooth, and then when you want it to, it'll snap your neck and kick you in the nuts just for good measure! haha

Thats only for a daily vehicle! as for a weekend warrior, can't go past an old Holden or Valiant!
    Cheers,
    Matt
