    253 Timing cover

I have a late 74 253, wondering if the timing cover is bare metal or painted Holden red / orange?

    Cheers.

They are normally bare with red overspray on the back edge where the paint masking thingy was held when they painted the engines. The Gregory's HQ-J V8 workshop manual in the attached Ebay link has a really good colour photo of a new 1974 HJ 253 on the front. Keep an eye out at swapmeets.

See the overspray on the valley cover? Bloody rough! When I pulled the box out of mine, the back of the sump wasn't painted due to the flex plate being on, and the bottom of the flex plate front was all rocket red.
If I can find my copy of that book i'll scan up a better picture for you.
