My best moment so far has been finding it.
My best moment so far has been finding it.
I've had a few best and worst moments.
The really worst moment was when I realised the body might not be a HJ. The give away, for me at least, was the round hole in the firewall for the wiring harness. HJ's should be square....so I found out. :errf:
The best moment was when I pulled the wiring harness back throught the firewall and a little plate bent back with it. The plate was held in with one screw so I undid it to reveal a square plug hole in the firewall. Someone had cut the round hole section out of a later model to so the round gromett could be fitted.....if you know what I mean
I have to agrre that Finding mine was the best moment so far!!
The worst was just after I picked it up from the mechanics ( 2 weeks ago) after he went right over it
for a Blue slip (nsw) and headed to the servo to fill her up!!
After all the new cars Ive had with buzzers and warning lights, I was so excited
to finally be driving it, I left the lights on and ended up with a flat battery!!
I also had forgotten how HEAVY these old bangers are when I had to push it out
of the way for the other customers!! Who didnt help me!!
Maybe they remembered how heavy they were!!
Looking forward to MANY more BEST moments ahead!!::D

Best moment was not needing a resto just having a car I've been able to get a decade of fun out of without having it off the road !!!
If only......Hynsight is a wonderful thing....so could we have if we had done what we thought we may have to do when our sandman didn't sell in 86...we would have pulled the cover off....took her off the blocks, and just driven her out of the farm shed......good for you to have one for 10 years and be enjoying her.....
after 10 years of collecting the parts to start the resto of my hq sandman van i fluke across the last bit needed...the correct date coded and prefixed motor....
and as an added bonus the guy i bought the hx sandman off that the motor for the hq was in sent me the receipts for the rebuild of the motor and unlike so many people these days he wasnt lieing about the rebuild...$3700 worth and its does sound fine..
bought an hq premier which is not screwed with to rape for all the correct bolts n bits so we are away and running in the next couple of weeks..
I am looking forward to seeing the progress!
my worst moment was on the recent sandman run where we were driving up a hill going to the lighthouse and i flicked off gas onto petrol and the car conked it and started going backwards down the hill and my sterring locked up , was quite eventfull , i was just luckly no one else was close behiend me
The classic sandman panel van - still a fathers worst nightmare
