I'll budget $1000 for complete paint and panel.

Does any body else watch those shows on Turbo Max on Foxtel where they get a car that looks like road kill from a half buried junk yard, fix the rust, give it full panel work and total resray and tell us it cost $1000? and it takes only 7 days[B]?.......How much does it really cost for panel and paint for a Sandman? Should I take my HZ van for a holiday to the US of A?

Seriously, you won't gets your van media blasted for $1000......materials (depending on quality) will run you close to 2K and the rest will be labour. That's fixing the rust and doing all the body prep correctly. Nothing worse than having panels not lining up either.

$1000....... Put another zero on the end of that budget.

When your van is ready to push into the spray booth I reckon it wil cost at least $3000 for paint and labour, black out paint and labour $2500 ,soda blast to body $1500 ,remove rust and under coat straighten panels etc $5000 to $15000 depending on condition of vehicle to start with so There you go anywhere from $12000 to $22000

I have been abit quiet for a while, however this is a touchy subject for me. I have stripped all guards, bonnet, doors, tailgates & entire body. etch primed all panels & used a penetrant on the body to prevent rust after it was stripped. From here it had 4000 in rust repairs which is fine. The body comes home for a few months for me to do some work. Back to th paint shop, at present entire car has been pollied [primer filler] & owes me 15,000 & still needs primer, more rubbing, top coat & assembely. I was thinking around 10,000 after rust work to complete the job. All work is @ 65/Hr is this the going rate ?. It will be an ace job but i can't help but feel panel shops are becomeing too expensive for resto work. 10,000 seems to get not much there days.

Think the days of the $6000 to $7000 street jobs are gone..
Just for a street Job looking at $12000 to $15000
For show well $15000 Up all depends on the body...
Mates spent over $35000+ on his Torana... It just adds up with the hours you spend trying to make it look right..

I'll second that. I've gone with 2K DuPont for all of mine and material alone is just on a grand now which doesn't include paper or masking consumables, prepsol or anything else. It will take me a lot longer than I was planning it to but I'm glad the only thing left for me to pay for is a spraypainter and the booth as I can do the rest myself and get it right.
    Nunc est bibendum...
