    11QT Block.

I just bought a very original HQ statesman, restoration project.
Has all log books etc, factory steer, the glove box has been removed to fit GM air cond.
The paperwork is there to state the vehicle is fitted with "Factory GM Air" but it was fitted at 12500k's, obviously dealer fit.
Also has a tray under the A/C unit, to compensate for the loss of the glove box.....cool.

My question is it has an 11QT engine, but is it a T400 or a traumatic? How can I tell?

That tray under the a/c unit is actually a Nasco accessory that could be fitted to any Holden. I have one in my HQ Prem Wagon but unfortunately not the A/C.

I'd have to have a better look but i'm pretty sure the plate doesn't have anything for eng and trans.

OK, have you looked at the gearbox? The TH400 has a stumpy extension housing in comparison to a Tri-Matic or TH350.
I have wrecked out many Statesmans over the years and most have had TH400 (Chev Turbo Pattern Blocks). I have 2x 11QT 308 engines here and both are turbo pattern blocks.

Is there a reason you care? Or is it just for the sake of knowing?

If it is an original HQ it'll be a trimatic, only 350 powered HQ's got TH400 boxes.

the easiest way to tell if its Trimatic or turbo box it liik for rubs in the bellhousing... ribs = trimatic. smooth housing is turbo.

for a block on the ground, if the dows are half way between the two lower bellhousing bolts its a CHev pattern, if its not appoximately haf way is an aussi pattern.

if its a column auto then the linkages will be on the right side of box as in drivers side if its a trimatic and if its t400 it will have a crossover and go to left side of box..
