Grille Trim

Anyone have some good tips on neatly removing the trim off the grille?

I see what appears to be tabs, but from what I can tell it is a snap on trim. I am worried of bending the trim or breaking the 40 year old plastic with a screw driver though.

if you are only taking it off to clean or paint the grille leave it on and mask it up

There are some dings I want to take out so that's why I want to know how to remove it safely without damaging anything.

I've tried with an HQ grille and an HZ grille, so far it's 0 for 2, trim not off or bent and two broken grilles!
I did try with stuffed grilles to begin with so I didn't wreck a good one.

spray some WD40 on it and very carefully prise them off. i took the ones off my HQ grille with no damage ,you should be able to find a damaged grille at campbelltown swapmeet this sunday (cheap) to practise on, if not see mook im sure he has one or ten stashed away

I have only one practice grille.
I'm off to Campbelltown on Sunday but have a wedding at 12.30 in Largs... so I'll be an early bird and get outta there by 10am!

Are you going to try and repair the dents on the trim yourself or are you sending it off to someone to repair it for you..

Im going to give it a crack, thats why Id like to remove it myself from the plastics.

The plastic has become soft over time and wedging a blade between the trim and grille causes some denting to the plastic grille, and also bends the trim a little.

Id hate to make the effort of fixing the trim only for it to look like crap putting it back on the grille.

There must be a way to remove the trim without damaging anything, and also put it back on.

Do you have the GMH HJ service manuals? Might give you some good pointers Cant get to the garage at the moment...moving sh!t around isnt an option at the moment :(

I've done a couple of Torana grills, not sure if they're the same but it was a fiddly job. Small flathead and lots of patience...
