Reproduction Sandman Full Length Hoodlining Bows and Rear Retaining Strip.

Good news. They are done.
Ok.
Here are some prices for those interested.

Complete kit:
2 x large bows. Bent up as originals. Made from spring steel to keep them nice and stiff.
2 x smaller bows. Bent up as originals. Made from spring steel to keep them nice and stiff.
Enough screws to fix the small bows including pics of locations etc.
4 x plastic plugs to go in the side pannel holes to hold the bows
2 x Side pannels cut to size and pre drilled for the bow holes. These are to be welded to side of the van. Will come with photos of originals to help position.
1 x Rear strip lazer cut same shape as the originals. Bent up as per originals also. This is to be welded or screwed to the rear.
1 x CD full of pictures to help you get everything right.

The Zinc material that they are being made from is the same gear used when you do a patch repair for fix rust etc. It welds ok. Will spot weld fine also if you wanted to do it this way.

I was thinking zinc would be best. But maybe that would put people off. Can do it from black no worries if its thought to be a better option?

Are you going to make them so it is clear that they are not genuine? Just so it is clear that if they are put in a non sandman? The headlining strip I mean.

I don't use zinc sheet for any repairs on vehicles as it is more "brittle", tends to spatter when welding and gives off noxious fumes, I only use panel steel or cut patch pieces out of unuseable vehicle panels.... bonnets are a favorite and damaged ones are cheap from the wreckers.

wbute, if you are going to repro something you try to repro it exactly as original.... it is easy enough to cut one from a Kingswood van and weld it into a non Sandman or even just use the complete Kingswood body shell so I wouldn't be too worried about someone trying to fake a Sandman by using a reproduction headlining strip.... once the headlining is fitted you can't see the strip anyway and I doubt a seller is going to allow you pull the headlining down to check whether it is faked or geniune. There are also genuine Sandmans that have had the strips removed during customising so a welded on strip does not necessarily mean the Sandman is a fake.

As Sandmans gain popularity you just need to do your homework when looking to buy one the same as you would for any collector car...

The strips will be 99% correct. meaning 99% of people will not be able to tell the differance.

Sean. I am under the impression "panel steel" has a type of zinc coating. Its not zinc as such its zincanneal. Which Im lead to believe is what is used for panel steel?

When we were buying our yellow van we asked all sorts of questions to fastlane (Byron) as to whether it was geniune, the hoodling clip which wasn't welded in later was one of the things which helped convince (Dandenong build so no XX7 on ID plate) us it was a sandman, and the courtesy light...and the chipped paint from the door sills revealed blackouts under the thick coat of yellow over the top.....
Not trying to dispute putting in hoodling clips, but understand where WBute is coming from with this.....

I agree I understand this. As said anyone that wanted to look correctly and do thier research correctly will know that my repros are repro. Not factory. But to the naked eye they will be.

Its all about how the strip is welded in also.
