Hi guys
just wondering if anyone knows if i can use an HX ute fuel sender in my 8/74 HQ ute?
I ran out of fuel the other day and it took me back to my days as a 17yo driving in my HZ 253 van which drank like a bloody camel... always conking out!

I put the HQ fuel back into my 1971 monaro ,but installed a HZ GTS dash and the fuel gauge was going in reverse, empty to full, somewhere in the mid 70's they changed the set up, so you could have a problem
I'm pretty sure what I told you was correct, ie early HQ are thermal and later HQ are magnetic, and HJ-WB are magnetic. Hopefully someone here will know for certain though.
There are 4 different types of sender units in HX HQ models you would need to know exactly what the HX sender was in sedan, van, wagon , auto , with air and engine size then you may be able to narrow it down. The part numbers are the same for both models you just need to know what you have to see what it will fit
Would you have to get the sender and gauge recalibrated. A gauge works place here in Adelaide said he can refurbish the original senders and calibrate to the gauge for about the same price as buying a new sender - and his opinion was the original senders are better than the new ones.
