According to the display board it is Leo's old car that he drove for a couple years!
Ah yes, I know the car. It is the prototype LE, and it is a HJ not a HX. It is actually the only LE you can call a Monaro as it is a HJ GTS Monaro coupe. Not sure why it has a HZ grille on it.

However at the end of the day my van is just a daily driver hack so it doesn't get too much love in the looks department, well if you don't count from some exceptionally poorly painted rust repairs to stop it falling appart completely.

Still, its more exciting than the barina that was parked behind me at the show.
probably just there for the all day parking for $10

I believe this particular car always had that style grille - "prototype" HZ grille maybe?

btw, this car has the nice-looking 'snowflake' style wheels that didn't make it to the production LEs :(

I want to see shots of that black van too. And the white HQ with red stripes look great.

Could be this tuxedo black one that was for sale a couple years back

That black van at the show the bloke had just finished painting it a couple of weeks ago to get it ready for it, it looked pretty bloody good ,sadly the poor bugger dropped a lifter on the way in and it went home on a tow truck. He did drive it off the oval and it didn't sound too good

Those nice looking "snowflake" wheels are another item out of the GM international parts bin, standard on certain late 70's Trans Ams, as were the pig ugly "honeycomb"rims that the LE's came with.

The design guys had all sorts of US stuff at their disposal to try, like every hubcab imaginable, every V8 engine, wheels etc. The original Polycast honeycombs were first seen on the SS prototype, made their way onto the 350Z and left GMH on the Ewe't. Those snoflakes were also seen on the turbo HX 4 door sedan, but obvioulsy left GMH on the LE prototype.
