"Proud To Be An Old Fart".
It is obvious when they haven't been fitted correctly for sure. Still, HQ bumperettes on HJ-X-Z and WB look completely wrong. They have nothing in common or style with the front bars.
A correctly fitted full bar of the correct model will always look superior in my eyes.

No, that is the point. The only front bumper that matches the rear bumperettes is HQ. Holden changed the front bars on the subsequent models even though the styling doesn't match.
It would be like fitting HQ Station Wagon rear bar on on a HZ sedan, it just isn't right in styling (although still better then HQ Bumperettes on a HJ-WB).

To do it correctly (fit a full bar) you need to use HQ lower tailgate hinges, HQ Wagon rear bar (or shorten a HJ-X-Z or WB Bar) and re-shape the bumper indent in the quarter panels.
HQ wagon bars look great with the WB Statesman large rubber moulds if you have the matching WB Statesman front. HJ-WB Hinges don't allow the bar to lift high enough, that and the fact these hinges are just plain ugly. Designed that way to allow the tailgate to drop fully.
Like anything, if it is fitted up correctly and done in such a way that it "could" have come from factory it will look great.
That said, factory got it all wrong right from the start with bumperettes on any model - YUK!

I actually agree with Byron on this one and would rather have bumperettes.
However at the end of the day my van is just a daily driver hack so it doesn't get too much love in the looks department, well if you don't count from some exceptionally poorly painted rust repairs to stop it falling appart completely.
Still, its more exciting than the barina that was parked behind me at the show.
Does anyone have any pictures of the Black van, pleeeeeeease.
Cheers Mark
