i thought i would post this up for the people that may be thinking of transporting a car interstate...
i have had a fair bit to do with freighting running and non running cars so these are the pitfalls and the fun you will have after you purchased the car..this is also why people buy cars on ebay and then pull out of the deal..
good running cars..no problems...go to this site and get a quote. www.movingcars.com.au
i got quoted $797.38 gst inclusive door to door macclesfield sa to newcastle nsw..
non running or suspect running cars...always a problem.
i have sent plenty of non running cars to vic and qld and its usually around $450 to capital city and loading is no issue if you have a forklift or they have a car on board to tow the non runner up with..
this van i just purchased is a beauty in logistical terms as it is a rough runner and is tricky to start...i figure i would classify it as a non runner because if i took the good runner option it has to be loaded at macclesfield and then taken to port adelaide and unloaded and then reloaded to go to victoria and then unloaded and then reloaded to go to sydney and then unloaded and reloaded to go to newcastle....each time it is unloaded it has to be moved around a yard....if it wont start it gets shoved in a corner and you get a generally nasty phone call and it costs you heaps more to get it..
there is always a way around things and i have used a guy in newcastle before to transport various parts to adelaide direct but its not a car carrier...
so as long as you dont mind your car/project being lifted onto a flatbed or into a taughtliner then there is no problem..
tilt tray macclesfield to wingfield is $165 and truck to newcastle is $880 but its a direct run..one time on and one time off the main transporter..
and a couple of hours on and off over a couple of days making different phone calls to transporters and seller to make it all happen smoothly..
