M21 Rubber boot removal

Wondering if the gear shifter unsrews /splits at the thick part 1/2 way down the shifter?

Is there a secret im missing to unscrew or tap apart ?

Nope, they're a one piece unit with a pressed-on vibration dampener. The rubber boot stretches over the top (carefully) to remove it.

Ahhh thanks, so to lift the body off to clear the gear shifter I have to unbolt the linkages / shifter.

That shifter does come apart there. It's not that hard to unbolt the shifter. If you are going to lift the body off, then getting the shifter off is the easiest bit.

About 4 bolts and 2 linkages, looks harder than it is is, probably a 10 minute job for a whizz mechanic if the console is already out. Took me about 20 minutes as I had to crawl under to unbolt the linkages and I did a bit of work on them as well.
