Went with LSV in the end. Wouldn't budge on the 30K but the annual premium was only $143 compared to Shannons at $552.

That's on the assumption I only drive it around twice a month.

Give them a call Mandy. See if you can get more than 30k but don't settle for less.

Got some Quotes today for my cars..
Shannons has all my private vehicles at the moment.
NRMA quoted me $975.00 to insure my 2000 Imported Torago.. Shannons are $654..
Then their Classic/Vintage cover for the Sandman was $430 for 20K cover..
    Shannons are $225 for 15K
I didnt even bother to get NRMA to quote on the HZ, Moke or the Vrod!!
Thinkin Shannons is the go again. Seem pretty easy to deal with to..

    I beg to differ.

With my recent claim with shannons they where NOT helpful. Everytime I rang I got a different answer to the same question. Also it seemed that all they knew was melbourne. When you have an accident out in the bush SA they couldnt even tell me what tow truck company I should ring to come get my car. YES CORRECT I had to organize this.

On another note BE AWARE of your policy. I suggest ALWAYS carry a copy of your policy and all the fine print. That way when you ring your insurance company and tell them you have had an accident you know what your entitled to. Shannons ripped me off on what I should have been entitled to. One bloke said I was entitled to it on the first phone call. 2nd bloke tells me Im not.

Do I recommend shannons? NO. Do I insure with them. Yes. (at the moment)

i bailed on nrma a few years back....
shannons have all my cars 10 i think,1 bike and my house which automatically gives me 10k on my garage..ive looked at others but none come close as a package with price and ease of policy changes etc..the only thing i would say about shannons..if you are not happy with the price the phone operaters give you then go to a car show that has shannons reps and get your vehicle valued there ..its worked for me a couple of times in raising the insured value ..

i reckon you just got a bad one..ive had a claim with shannons on my vq statesman 1 tonner and they could not have been more helpful...in fact they annoyed the shit out of me ringing every 4 days to see if i was happy?

all insurance company policies should be read and understood prior to claiming...
salvage rights are not automatic like people think..certain vehicles dependant on age get it automatically while others you have to ask and pay more for and later models again its not an option..this is in the fine print but few read it...

my issue was not me getting the fine print wrong. But I was told on the day of the crash and when I rang them that I was NOT entitled to some things that I should have been entitled to. Also there where some things that my complaints Representative told me that the operators (more than one) on the day of the accident should have told me and didn't.

Basically If they had decent people answer the phone for me on that day things may have gone better. But in the end it made the whole process painful.

unfortunately i have got some monkeys on the phone but you will get that with every phone operators wether its shannons or telstra..
if i am suspicious of what i am being told or think its wrong i usually ask for a supervisor and if i can t get one of these i hang up and ring later..
i believe my file with shannons must be red flagged as i havent had a problem with them for so long..:crikey:

I used to be with Shannons, they were fine with my VR, but when I got the van, they argued with me and told me it can't just be a WB van, it has to be a belmont or kingswood or sandman... they're supposed to know this old stuff, they're supposed to specialise in it. Price was reasonable, but I've ended up with LSV, since I don't drive the van every day, I now pay 1/4 of what i used to in insurance, i drive it once a week, maybe twice, take it away, if for a longer period, just need to tell them and all's fine. Instead of over $400 p.a., now pay $90... yes folks, that's right, only $90 and i've got the same coverage, simply cos i don't drive it everyday. They even insured my shitbox Corolla which is daily driver and they normally won't do that cos they deal with special vehicles, but since i brought the van over to them, they did that as well, probably do, just to make life easier for you and it gives them another contract. Win/win both. haven't done a claim with them, but another has and they were very good. Cross fingers I don't have to find out for myself... just a thought, Shannons are generally pretty good, I just got sick of paying out hundreds for a vehicle that is very low risk.
