"1974 V8 HQ sandman ute, one owner since brand new, original motor available and in running condition 308 with matching numbers, originally 4 spd manual, has been overlanded with genuine kit not a faker... with engineers certs, current motor 308 40,000kms since rebuild with yella terra heads, electronic ignition, cigerson cam, heavy duty radiator, air con, turbo 400 auto transmision, dyna transfer box, twin battery system, free wheeling hubs, was one of the very first sandman utes in W.A. 1 of only 120 built in 1974. an exrtremeley reluctant sale due to health, QT 480535, collectors item for lovers of the sandman or the overlander, original color autum gold with tan interior and black grills, very rare vehicle in both categories and a even rarer piece of motoring history. excellent to drive, twin headlight front end, buyer could convert back to factory if so inclined."

PS. If someone is close and can visit the details of the plates would be interesting. Its definitly missing the chassis but has the Steering Wheel centre.

Why would it be missing the chassis? Overlanders used the original chassis, simply underslung the rear diff and added some brackets and a brace to fit the front springs. If I could find out what assembly plant built it I may be able to track down the details.

oh ok.... QT 480535 The engine number is within the range of a late HQ.

So could you buy a "genuine kit" from the overlander factory and retro-fit the whole shebang yourself?

Yes. It isn't a proper Overlander (ie Vehicle Engineering and Modifications Pty Ltd ADR plate) but exactly the same thing otherwise. It must have an adapter plate to use that engine with a TH400, you can't redrill a HQ block to TH pattern.

yeah the 308 in my HQ has an adapter for the T350 that I can ditch to put the M21 back in.

They still would of required engineering but in WA who knows in the 70's. :-) I suppose the welds on the spring hangers have withstood the test of time.

Cool car anyway. Hopefully someone retrieves the numbers for you.

When you look at them the welding required is pretty straight forward. Engineering would have been supplied with the kit, just welding inspections required.
