    Rear Axle Float ?

Hey team. Just wondering how much rear axle float (horizontal movement) is acceptable? I have just changed over from a 2.78 to a 3.08 diff single spinner salisbury and have the drivers side axle (right) sitting snug but the (left) side seems to have a fair amount of float 1/2"? I retained my oridginal axles and changed all bearings, seals and retaining collars so it is all fresh but am concerned about the float. Will this take up or only get worse? Any ideas?

sounds like you may have a disc brake seal in one side?

...somethin is wrong there..dont drive it...you should not have axle movement like that.

Hi , did you change the whole diff housing or just the carrier and pinion ? I know that that 3.55 , 3.36 and 3.08 diffs share the same housing but 4.44 and 2.78 have different housing . I don't think there is a difference in axles but I could be wrong. Maybe try fitting the 3.08 axle . It's not safe to drive with that much movement

The whole diff/axle assembly was swapped. I have swaped axles left to right and still have this problem?
It seems really weird? I dont intend on driving it but it is puzzling?

you say you swapped them left to right. and still same problem. Did the movement follow the same axle. So in other worders was it on the drivers side before and now the passenger side after swapping the axles?
