Forum etiquette means maintaining a standard of posting behavior that is acceptable and appropriate.
The following is a guideline of forum behavior expected at mysandman.com.au.
- Use the Search feature of the forums to see if your topic is already covered.
- Use a meaningful title for your thread. (HX Sandman is not a meaningful thread title).
- Post your thread in the appropriate or most appropriate section.
- Be civil. Personal difference should be handled privately through email or PM and not posted publicly.
- Stay on topic.
- Do not double post (post the same message twice in the same thread) or cross post (place the same message across several threads).
- Use the EDIT button to change your post content instead of adding another post immediately after your post.
- Do not use all caps or SHOUT in your posts.
- Spelling and punctuation is important, however you will not be admonished for a best effort.
- When replying to a post, do not quote more from the previous post than necessary.
- Do not post new problems on someone else's thread and interrupt a topic of discussion.
- Do not use someone else's thread for a private conversation.
- Watch your sense of humor, posts may be read by people from a variety of backgrounds and ages. Sarcasm does not work on the internet either.
- Act in a give and take manner; help others as often as or more than you ask for help.
- Do not submit a post that requires readers to download a large attachment. Either explain the attachment or, better yet, provide a link to the information.
- Do not chastise newbies. Welcome and assist them.
Most of the rest of forum etiquette involves using the Golden Rule: treat others as you would like to be treated.
Behaving as a reasonable adult, even in the face of being flamed, is always the best course of action. If a poster becomes harassing, obscene or personal, do not retaliate. Instead use the report post feature (triangle with exclamation mark (!) to report the post to a moderator.
