    Orange Roughy

Hi all again. Just picked up a 74 HJ Orange windowless van, well haven't yet technically i pick it up next weekend, and for the coin i think it's not a bad deal. Body is shot but i only want the window infill panels which appear to be good. It has little bubble 'pornstar' tear drop windows in the side towards the door which i have never seen before and think i'll leave in.....my van is a WB with Stato front, normally i'm a traditionalist but being a WB base it can never be a Sandman so i thought i'd try something different on this build. Also has good upper t/g with bubble window too.

Question, when cutting the section out of the van what is the best method? Unpicking it, grinding it? I realise i'd have to be much more careful with my build van but i am not touching that, i just have to get the donor section out. Also, do i unpick/remove the ribs first? (i know, i know, you guys must get so sick of novices asking questions, i'll buy you all a beer).

Is a 308 trimatic (same combo as my HQ Stato), twin headlight front, power steering unit which i need for my van and hopefully a few other hidden suprises. As i stated in another thread i have an old phone, new laptop and NFI on how to get photos on here but will try again after seeking some advice from a blonde visitor i'm hopefully getting later today (she seems to know everything as they do so should be right).

The van will be getting the motor, box, side windowless section, p/s removed and i'll shift or give away the rest. Anyone in the area feel free to ask if you need anything.

    Cheers......Rockape

P.S....... where can i find a list of HQ Sandman colors? I'm looking but cant find. I thought i had decided upon Orchid but considering strongly a green....Jamaican Lime? Help, as usual, appreciated...

    Ta

Go for a color you like and can live with. I dont think there are many orchid vans around. To put up a photo save the photo onto your computer, remember where you put it. Then when you post something or reply to post click on the icon that says insert image. Then it will guide you to locate your image, click on your image and upload it. Hope this helps

Can you PM me the ID plate details off the donor?

If it was me i'd use Saffron, Orchid or Aquamarine if you want a HQ Sandman colour. Suburst is nice too.

To remove the side panels, just cut through the quarter below the join, right through the inner and outer, and cut the roof above the drip rail. This will allow you to keep the whole lot, ribs included and easily store them until you are ready.

Thanks Bobcat. My main drama is getting the photos from the phone to computer. I'm dreading buying a gay i phone.....so not my thing but might have to. I am going to have a crap load of stuff to sell soon so to list them online i'll have to get organised.

Thanks too HK......i figured when cutting the donor van more is better, so i'll heed your advice. I'll pm you the tags when i pick the rocket up. Ill be keeping the upper tailgate with bubble window that old mate tells me is suprisingly good. Also has 15 inch chrome Cragars AND full headlining. I'm guessing the h/l is shagged but i am told the bows are very hard to come by so i'll grab them too. Hopefully some other suprises lurk within.

I think i'll go for Orchid....Lime green is very in your face and i'm not really that sort of guy. Orchid and blackouts i'm thinking. Chics dig purple yeah?

    CHeers guys....

If it's got full headlining I would checking out the orange roughy pretty well to make sure you are not cutting up the wrong van ....

I was thinking the same! A HJ with a full length headlining is a Sandman. It may be faded Manarin red too, not orange.

I shall run the numbers by you guys before the axe comes out haha.

Spoke to old mate last night and it seems i have my wires crossed again....it has no full headlining BUT he said it has the sharks tooth (his terminoligy) on the inner rear of the turret.....is that some kind of grip strip for the headlining? I thought he said it had a full headlining originally.....maybe he removed the bows himself to keep them, which is fair enough. Oh well, there's still the parts i wanted in it.

Thanks QUP I shall check it out.....

Yes that is the attachment strip, it would be there because the van had full headlining.
