Its a sweet sound after they haven't run for a couple of years, started my 253 about a month ago hadn't been started for two years ,it rattled for a while pissed out fuel out of the carby but still kept running sweet as.changed the carby and drove it home about 2 klms a week later.

Sounds like the cam might have a lobe or two gone off it. Is a cool feeling getting an old engine to start again!

yeah i was so happy when i got it running, im not sure what engine im gonna put in it, i have a rebuilt 253 sitting in the drive way doing nothing but its got a vt sump on it, i was thinking of swapping the sump over but that kinda ruins the point of getting this one started plus it wont be the original engine "if it is original", might get this one running good, swap the sump and sell it,

i couldn't get it to run for the past week, but found out it was the coil, got a new coil and unblocked the fuel pump and now it runs and drinks on its own, no more chucking fuel down the carby
