    radio antenna on HZ

    G'day

Can anyone tell me what the go is with the location of the radio antenna on HZ model sandman vans? I have seen some in the passenger quarter panel, some in the roof above the windscreen and some have none visible at all.

If anyone could tell me the correct factory location it would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

SStevo05 sorry it is so big but it will show you where the antenna on our 78 HZ Van....this Van was purchased in completely original condition so the Antenna is on the passenger side as shown...Hope this helps

I will go out on a limb here and say that in the mudgaurd was where Holden put them if ordered with a radio. Every one else put them in the roof because they looked better.

Thanks heaps Jen - that is where most that i have seen have them. There are just some that i have seen that have them mounted on the roof just above the windscreen, and some that dont appear to have any at all.

From my research and from feedback from helpful people like you i can assume that all HZ sandmans had the factory antenna in the front passenger quarter panel.

Must be an asthetic thing to have them on the roof??

Was the radio an option back in 78? This may explain why some vans have no antenna at all?

    Thanks again Jen

They must have still been optional/dealer fitted in 84 as my 84 WB has the roof aerial and it is in original condition. So if you are going for the factory AM radio I would say to put it in the guard.

thanks for posting that vanman, my next question was the style of mounting, whether they were straight up and down or ones that were on a ball that you could angle backwards?

From the two pics posted i guess they were just the simple straight up and down ones, with the angular type saved for roof mounting.

    Thanks again guys, problem solved.

    Cheers
