Do we have a genuine sandman?

    Hi Everyone
Hoping someone can help us out. We have 2 Panelvans, 1 we do not believe is a sandman, the other we are hoping it is.
I will give as much info as i can & if you need to know anything else please ask.

    So:
    Model - HX8WM70
    Body No - 423515B
    Trim - 1925 60A
    Paint - 567 30183

    Eng - L32
    Trans - M20
    ? - GV7

Next Plate, is very hard to read so ill do my best:

    HOLDEN
    HX PANEL VAN
    7/77 AHX 13433B

    GVM 2200KG
    SEATING CAP - 2

    Last plate - 8M70RG?423515X

It is currently a Deep Red Maroon colour, but i dont think that this is the original colour.
It also has a 3 Speed Auto & 308 Motor.

It has the GTS Dash,Guards. Unsure on the full length headlining as its all been removed. It is windowless.

Anything else i should look for?

    Thank you

1925 is Persian Sand, 60a is Chamois Vinyl. L32 is 253, M20 is 4 speed.

The ? In the last plate would be handy to know as that tells you where it was built. If ? is a H then you could say no as it was built in Brisbane and would have XU3 on the tags.

GVM of 2200 isn't a great sign. Could still be an XU3 Sandman but they're kind of rare. Has it got courtesy light switches in the doors?

The holes will be there regardless.

Look for the rear hoodlining attachment teeth, also evidence of the hoodlining side strips if they are still there.
Post photos up for us and you'll get more informative feedback from the experts

They are both Acacia Ridge build by the look of it, so without having XX7 or XU3 on the BODY plate they are not Sandmans. Even if it happened to be an impossibly rare HX or HZ that they forgot to put it on it would make no difference as they are not worth any more than a normal van without it.

HK1837 - what do you mean by both? I have only put the plate details for one of them.
Also i been back down to have a look in daylight, the missing letter is an L.

If that ? mark in the VIN is to be an L then it is an Adelaide built body so there wont be additional stamps on the plates with XX7.
Also the R means a 253 V8 not the 308 you have in there, but the M20 is for a trimatic.

***Whoa! Disregard this post. I attribute it to a very very late couple nights therefore not reading everything in the post.***

    Yes M40 is trimatic, M20 & M21 is 4 speed

Thought the trimatic was "M40" designator?

253/M20/3.55:1 was a fairly common eng/box/diff combo in the HZ wasn't it? That said, I have a HZ ute in the front yard at the moment that had that engine/box (actually, come to think about it - it may be M21 but will have to look when I get home) but a 3.36:1 (GV4) salisbury in it (also has the sway bar mounts on the diff and rear rails that the HJ doesn't).

Question for those in the know: Are those sway bar mounts part of RTS or just an option on HZ commercial vehicles?

    Regards,

    Dave

Wow wow, everybodies getting a bit off with their advice.

Maddi, the missing digit should be a H not an L. It is Brisbane (Acacia) built by the chassis and body number. Is was 253 4 speed (M20) not trimatic. Is not a sandman unless there is a XU3 in the top right corner of the passenger side plate?
