Does anyone know the process involved in registering a car that is missing id tags?????

I have chassis and engine numbers but so far have come up with nothing in any checks i have done and all phone calls to relevant authorities are leading to dead ends.

i keep getting told that it needs to go through a regency (S.A.) check but don't want to fork over my cash for a van until i know it can be registered any idea's on this prob would be ace.

Can u get the last owner of the van to rerego the van in his name first. Before changing the van into ur name.

Have you called Regency? They're the ones who'll know and if they pass it for you then the rego office can't deny you rego with a passed inspection slip.

The van hasn't been registered for about 15 years which wouldn't normally be a problem and was hoping to get the guy to just re-rego it for me but the dude that own's it now has had it for a year or two and bought it with no id plates no number plates and no rego papers off the kids of on old guy who had passed away so all a bit tricky to begin with.

Yeah playwme my next call is regency i was just a bit sick of speaking on the phone to people with no idea transferring me to another person with no idea but hopefully the peeps down there will help me out a little.

engine number and chassis number are the identifiers for registration...tags arent needed..at least up till 1988 when vin numbers replaced a chassis number...there is a difference.

I am in NSW and a mate of mine just bought a VF Valient where it has the compliance plate missing.

He phoned the RTA and they said that they could stamp the body for him.

Not ideal as it reduces the value of his car. Maybe they could in SA too, but who knows?
