if it has an aftermarket clutch kit in it the thrust bearing is probably smaller than the original, thats why it has the clamp there but the correct way to fix it is adjust the ball that the fork pivots on . the thrust bearing doesnt need to be much shorter to cause problems because your clutch works on a leverage system .i have had this problem twice and have fixed it by adjusting the ball that the fork pivots on . it only takes 1-2 mm adjustment

I have no idea what clutch has been put in it.. I've never had the gearbox separated from the motor either.. lol I'll give her a go and hopefully it doesn't take too much to fix it..
    Cheers,

the carrier and bearing on the left is for a push clutch..every all synchro 3 and 4 speed v8 or 6 to early hz...the middle carrier and bearing is for pull clutch..late hz wb and vb vc vh vk commodore 6 cylinder...the carrier and bearing on the right is for pull clutch in v8 for late hz wb and vb vc vh vk vl vn vp vr and early vs with t5 but not late vs getrag gearbox as they are hydraulic..you should be able to see the carrier and bearing through the inspection cover...another clutch adjustment problem in v8s is the incorrect supply and use of the 6 cylinder carrier and bearing...note the hieght differences..hope this helps figure out yours and everyone else who may have this same problem....just a note, most places will tell you the v8 carrier for anything up to vl is obselete..fact is they superseded the part number when they started using the carrier with the t5 boxes in vn on..so if you get that answer ask for one to suit vn v8 or ring me coz i have them in stock new..

Well the gearbox is out now.. I had a small go at adjusting the clutch fork and got it much better than it was before.. I will have a better go tomorrow, and hopefully make it perfect and get it all fixed!!

I also took the oportunity to clean the 30+yrs of grease and grime off the gearbox while it was out. I also found it has a very bad rear seal leak. It is leaking out the new oil that was put in 3-4months ago..

Then on monday it is off to see the blue slip guy to confirm what he wants done if I put the 4spd in...

I'll let you know how it goes!!
    Cheers,
    Matt

Well, going by the above picture and description I think the throw-out bearing in my ute is the wrong one :(

    Here are some pics.

And just a few more showing the 30+yrs of grease and grime on the gearbox and the cross member.. lol

What do you think??? I think the one in mine looks like a push type one... When I should have the middle one.

This is probably why it is out of alignment and causeing me greif!! :(
