Thread: Another Adjusting Problem on my WB!!!

    I don't reckon it was stretched, I reckon the clutch wasn't setup properly in the first place and that is why they used the radiator hose clamp! I'd just pull the box out and set it up right. It is just tailshaft, shifter and crossmember off and undo the box at the 4 x bolts onto the bellhousing.

    Hmmm, okay.. It doesn't sound real good.. lol I'm thinking if I have to go to all this trouble I will put the rebuilt motor that I have in (I bought it after I set up the one thats in it now..) Having the gearbox out will also allow me to clean it abit.. I might wait for the shed to be finished (hopefully today.. ) and then I will finally have a concrete floor to do things properly on!!

    I'll go and measure the distance from the back of the bellhousing to the bottom of the hook (that the cable goes in..) and if its 39.0mm its been set up right.. If not I will take the box out and set it up properly..

    It may also have the wrong throwout bearing, it is common and many experienced people get it wrong. I'd talk to a clutch mob that knows what is going on before you touch it. Get a photo of the throwout bearing carrier and bearing from below and post it up here. Oz knows them back to front.

    Went and measured it and it is about 40mm out from what it should be, so it will need to come out and get adjusted.. I think it might have the right throwout bearing, but am not 100% sure because I just put the motor and box in from the parts car.. lol I think I'll just take the whole lot out, adjust the 3spd on my reco'd motor and put that back in.. I'll se how I go with the photo..

    the correct throwout bearing has a plastic carrier with a non replacable bearing.pull type clutch only.LATE HZ WB ONLY..6 AND 8 ARE DIFFERENT SIZE CARRIERS TO ANYONE ELSE READING THIS...if it has a metal carrier and replacable bearing its for the push type clutch in hq to early hz...very common problem that the incorrect bearing and carrier are supplied with replacement clutch kits these days....this may be the reason there is a hose clamp in there....

    I will have to check and see which one it has.. I'll pull the cover off and try and get a picture of it..

    its very cold on the garage floor at the moment, i hope these picks help, just remember it a v8 4speed with clutch fork cover removed, please excuse the mess, that is from the old engine 25 years of mud cow shit and oil, just have not got around to cleaning yet. the oil on the cable is chain oil, you must lubricate the cable inside so it doesnt snap after a couple of years

    Hey buck they often get seized up because they run too close to the extractors(if it has them).

    When i put the gearbox back in after the rebuild i had not taken a photo of where the spring mounts to hold the clutch cable away from the extractors, i have just attached the spring to one of the brake lines to hold it away from them.
    also forgot about the clutch fork cover which got a little toastie resting on the extractors (nice smell) not!

    Your lucky!! I have a damp dirt/grass floor at the moment.. lol Yep, they help heaps.. My clutch fork is heaps closer to the front of the opening, and the clutch cable is wound right out as far as it will go.. How do you lubricate the cable??? Just squirt some down the cable and move it back and forth??

    Haha, I have no extractors on that side!! But hopefully not for long.. Can't wait to get a decent V8 in there..

    I am looking for one of those clutch for covers, I don't know where mine went and I need one of those cause you definately don't want water and shit getting in there!! lol
