    HZ-WB GTS Guages...

    Hi guys.. I have contacted a few local auto electricians (regarding elctrical problems with my GTS dash..) and one of them said that Holden used different guages between HZ-WB GTS dashes. They then went on to tell me that I would have to replace the insides of my tacho to suit electronic ignition (because HZ had points, and the tacho is set up/built to run on those..)

    My question is, do I really have to replace the insides of the tacho to suit the electronic ignition??? and did they actually use different guages between HZ-WB??

    Ohh, and if they do have different brands of guages, do they have to be all the same brand or can they interchange??

    Thnaks for the help..
    Cheers,
    Matt

    I fitted Electronic to mine and after 3 years the tacho is playing up. Sometimes it doesn't work at all. (maybe once a month).
    Have been looking at alternatives (WB or Commodore) but haven't gone too far yet. (Had very little interest in van since January)
    BO6 = Rarer then a Sandman

    Righto, so it takes a while for it to stop working.. I'll address that issue when it happens, but for now I just want to get it in and working so it can pass rego..

    I remember reading on a forum somewhere (fastlane or OldHolden or somehwere like that yonks ago) there is someone that modded Autometer internals into a white needle tacho body. Personally I wouldn't have thought the needle sweep was right but there may be ways around how they are calibrated.

    My guess is the tacho is needs to go to an instrument place for repair Agro. Mine was jumping all over the place when I first got my WB. It was a dodgy solder joint in it.
    There must be something simple wrong like the gauges don't work. Have you had them tested at all? I hooked all my white needle gauges up to my WB when I had its dash out to fix the AC a couple of years ago. they all worked fine on the factory WB harness. There should be no difference between HZ and WB gauges if white needle ones work on a WB harness.
    How do you know for sure your gauges are HZ and not WB anyway?

    Yeah, I know that.. But I would rather have it done before rego so I can just jump in and drive instead of having to pull it all apart and fix it again...

    Yeah, I am thinking that it is something to do with the combination guage... I havent had them tested, but I think I will be getting them done soon just for peace of mind.. lol all this is doing my head in with trying to work out what could be wrong with it.. lol

    With the guages, that is exactley what I thought when the auto electrician said that they are different... And the white needle ones working on a WB harness shows that there shouldn't be any difference.. And I have no idea how to tell if they HZ or WB.. lol

    You've got a 6 cylinder in your ute too don't you? Tacho might need to be calibrated to suit the 6. I'm not sure if they get the signal once per engine revolution or on every spark.
