Quadrajet carby's for HJ Sandman

I checked out both carby's but they both have the cover on the front, not sealed the number on it is 7043284 (2483) maybe hq or earlier?? I'll keep an eye out for the right one. Just another question, in regards to the inlet manifold, the one i have has the holes in the side on left rear below where the carb sits, it looks like where the choke part bolts on?? Not sure if this is the correct manifold. The two holes are just below the left rear carby stud on the actual manifold looking from front of car. Can u enlighten me if this is correct year for my car? Cheers

70 - Before 1976
43 - 1973
2 - emissions number
8 - Holden
4 - Even number is for an Auto, Odd is for a Manual

2483 should be the 248th day in 1973 (September 5) when it was made or QA'd or something before it left the factory.

Should be some time in 74 HQ\LH 308 with an Automatic transmission.... I think the carby date is usually many months ahead of the motor given the fact it probably spent a long time in a dark box on a ship over. I dont think it would be a year later to make it early HJ but maybe. :-)

That is a later spec HQ or early HJ (1974 HJ - same as my Premier) 308 auto carby. Being 2483 it would have been on a 1974 HQ. You want the number I gave you for a 1975-76 HJ.

Cheers guys for the info. I did a bit of research and found out that the round piece that bolts on the manifold is the choke. It come out on Ht to HJ. If anyone knows anybody that has the choke setup and the pipe that goes to the exhaust manifold let me know as i'm after one. Cheers

Any HT to HJ or LH to 6/76 LX 253 or 308 manifold will have the choke mech you need.

Hi Byron, i spoke to a guy today who reckons the choke setup that bolts to the side of the manifold that goes to the quadrajet wouldnt be on a 5th 76 HJ, he reckons it stopped in 74, i told him he was wrong but i wanted to check with you. Ps i got that carby off ebay. Thanks for that

He is wrong. The choke mech didn't move to the side of the carby until ADR27A engines were fitted. These are the ones with the exhaust crossover in the manifold, fitted from 6/76 in HX and LX but a few very late HJ's got them. As yours doesn't have 27A on the ADR plate it has the standard 1975-6 HJ engine with the divorced choke mechanism.
