    1975 Sandman for sale Perth

Hi , does this one look legit ??

    http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/oakfo...ute/1002863609

I originally owned a 75 Sandman and the fact that there is Power steering and no full console makes me think its not a Sandman.
    Does anyone have any thoughts??

You need to do the research I suppose. Chances are it's been changed a bit over the years. Things like consoles and power steering are easily changed. Looks like a nice ute from the pictures though.

Ive been to look already. Byron has now recorded and confirmed this one with the info i provided him. Its quite rusty. I offered the bloke $7K (massive stretch)
and he told me to beat it. Reckons he had two offers at $11,000 the day after i went. Strong money for one that needs a complete resto (not mechanical).

Rear of cab has bog, rocker panels have massive rust holes and bog, lower rear 1/4s have bog, doors are full of bog, needs cowls, inside door edges are full of bog, rear beaver is full of bog, no console, incorrect interior with commodore or statesman buckets, blah blah blah basically its not worth what hes asking in my opinion!

You know when people say 'it looked better in the pics'... believe me they ALWAYS look better in the pics

HAS BEEN USED AS DRAG CAR TOO... awesome buying at $12,000....not

So the idea is take a magnet with you and tell him you will pay him for the amount of steel still left in it!
one of those id plates looks a little interesting too, looks like they have been removed at some stage?

Silver dash is right for earlier HJ, power steering was comon on V8. Lack of a console is a worry with this one as Cyclamin says. You'd want to look closely at it to make sure. I recorded it with a ? from memory, but it does smell Sandman.

Not sure if they've been removed or not but being a Melbourne build HJ the ID plate carrying the body info should be painted as they were affixed before painting. I must admit I looked long and hard at it as the buff marks (and the alloy removed from the plate while it was cleaned) looked sus but explained easily enough. The dash is right (5+1 digit speedo) but not sure about the warning light next to it - trying to work out if it is a reflection or white lettering (which shouldn't be there on this model). The blinker stalk knob HK-G? and the console I'm not sold on as it could either be a seat seperator or a normal console cut down - looks to have carpet glued on the end of it? I'd be looking at evidence of a front console mount ever having been there in front of the gearstick and if there was evidence of a front seat sep mount having been cut out/off (they look the same as a rear console mount).

Have a look at the steering column in the engine bay to give you any clues about if it was ever a column shift and if there are any witness marks on the chassis attach points from where any of those linkages would have been bolted to it originally under the drivers feet.

Have to admit the body colour firewall, inner guards etc etc, don't do it for me. They just scream "PG13'ed with"..... A manual 253 ute with standard manifolds doesn't exactly scream drag race to me either as there are better engine/chassis combos out there that will hook-up better than a ute chassis/cart spring combo. Any sign of mini tubs?

I feel Vombil's $7K offer wasn't too far off the mark. His claim of it being "original" is laughable though....

    Regards,

    Dave
