    Pretty Sure... But?

    IMG20120520_001.jpgIMG20120520_004.jpgIMG20120520_005.jpg

I bought this one about 9 years ago and its just been through its second paint job. I used a website set up by a couple of guys in Ocean Grove Vict which had a lot of info on how to identifiy Sandmans. What I got form this was this was an Adelaide build HX altough the build date is HZ time frame. It was originally 253 4 speed mandarin red with black vinyl interior. It has the full headling correct dash (white needles?) and came with gts wheels. No tyre placard. Any corrections or additional info welcome. Don't mind the mint julep paint, I lost the battle with my wife and daughter and had to paint it this colour not the original. At the end of the day this was not a pristine survivor and already had a 308 out of a HQ Statesman on dual fuel and a trimatic. Couldn't stomach the trimatic so replaced it with a Hadfield Supra 5 speed kit, rebuilt the motor to run dedicated gas and added a couple of extra tanks (3 in total). Otherwise I've just tried to preserve the cars history.

    Thanks.

Definite XX7 Sandman. It is late HX, possibly an overtime shift build by the way the PSN is stamped on the VIN plate. I'll check it out later, at Origin right now.

Here it is. Had a bit of a drama with the new carpets. Gave it a wash on the weekend, first time since picking it up from the painter last week. He forgot to reconnect the drain tubes for the plenum and flooded the carpet and underfelt. Chucked the lot in the skip and will replace with new. Once they are saturated you never seem to be able to get them completely dry and they get mouldy.

Is there anything else you guys can tell from the tags? I work at Holden and the place is full of car nuts. Used to talk to some of the old guys (I guess I'm one of them now) and they told me its possible the body was built and then sidelined for some reason - a rework or something, and then got built done the General Assy with the HZ's that had started being built.

Have any of you guys dug into the history of your individual cars? Previous owners, dealership that sold the car etc? How and where did you start. I rekon some young bloke had this one becuase the guards are lipped, chrome hood hinges, catch, power booster and diff cover. By the time I got it though it was preety sad.

I rekon this history is as important as the history of the model.
