    back yard find

    my mate has had his windowless hq sandman for 20 + years now been in his back yard for 15 years he is the third owner some rust but repairable nearly having him talked into selling it to me it was original from the eastern states silver metallic gts dash and steering wheel buckets four speed manual and gts wheels but no gts guards he has been told it is a proto type built buy repco four the launch of the sandman only 2 were made anyone ever heard off off these 2 sandmans

    Sandman prototype was a ute, not a van and Repco would not have built anything like that for GMH. If it is metallic and a HQ van then there is a good chance it is a Sandman though, but not guaranteed. Put up ID plate details as a start to help identify.

    Very interested to see some photos HalfaWoody. Welcome to MySandman. I wouldnt be concerned about the lack of GTS guards as they were difficult to obtain in the '80s if the origionals were damaged and could of been changed later. Do you have the build date off the plates of this one?

    lets look into it

    when i get back home i will go and see my mate and get the id tags number to send to use i think he might have said it was a promotional vehicle from the vans will ask him again about the repco thing

    yep you got my attention as well even though i dont have my own sandman always loved them from when grandfather had one hj sandman ute

    Before you get too excited, Super Chicken and water splash were decals not cars. They were displayed on utes and vans but were sold as an accessory.
