I had a look through the "HZ Sandman Van Restoration" via the posted link. The twin exhaust run's through two muffler's up near the rear axle. Many year's ago when I had my HZ ute, the twin system that I had fitted only ran through one muffler. Are they all using two muffler's these day's or are there many differences?

i think mine was single muffler, two outlets

You can go either way, two mufflers or one.

I have a HQ ute that I am slowly making into a Sandman replica. I went to the local exhaust shop and enquired about a price for a twin exhaust to slot into my 253 I'm about to put in around 6 weeks time. They said it was going to cost me about $700 installed.

Basically they said they would pre-order a set up for a HQ sedan and then modify it to make it fit. Anyway it was a twin muffler with twin exhaust.

While we are on the subject, what is the advantages from a single to a twin?

Is it better on fuel or more power etc?

My wb has a twin system 2" then a single muffler like the wb statesman with twin inlets and outlets just near the rear axle on a bit of an angle to go up over the diff.
My Dad has a V12 which he has used 4 wb statesman mufflers to match the original quad system on his car, 2 near the diff and 2 right at the back with ss pipes welded to the 4 outlets on the mufflers, original exhaust was to expensive at $4200.

I don't know. The last thing I would ask for at an exhaust shop is a standard system. I reckon a good two in two out single muffler with a twin system and extractors sound better than two separate mufflers.

Would have to agree with wbute, i am very happy with the note out of the single muffler twin in twin out & pacemaker extractors, I had a HZ with twin 2.5" system and 2 seperate mufflers didnt sound as good as the one i have now, and i also think the back pressure was a bit low with 2.5" twin, but that may have been the mufflers almost straight through.

Wow, thanks Agr071. This guy knows what he is talking about.

I am more interested in fuel economy then power or touque gain as I only plan to cruise. I am now siding with a 2.5" single pipe. I want something that sounds good, but fuel efficient too. I think I have read his comments right to get what I need.

I agree with wbute, the system I had was a 2" with single two in & two out muffler. I didn't have extractor's, couldn't afford them. I had not long bought the ute and 2" was the exhaust size then.
