Mix it with water at about 1 cup to 20 lts water and soak a sample over night to see if it is strong enough. Keep it away from aluminium, it will eat into it and give off flammable gas. Have a read up about it first so you know what you are dealing with.

Potassium Hydroxide will do the same.
Yeah, thanks for the info mate.. I got a can of Easy Off Heavy Duty Oven cleaner (it had the highest amount of Sodium Hydroxide, I think 54grams per kilo which works out to about 5%..) It works pretty well.. I just sprayed it on with a heavy coat and left it to sit until it almost dried, then got a toothbrush ans the paint just wiped of with a cloth..

There is a small amount of black paint left, so I am going to give it another coat and try to get rid of it..

Yeah, I got a little bit on my hand and washed it off straight away.. But your right, it is more of an itch than a burn..

Pelletized caustic soda is available from Bunnings in different sized tubs.

Correct ABS plastic welding rod is far easier to use than cut up bits of fascia and is reasonably cheap.
    Where to get it.... http://lmgtfy.com/?q=http://www.miplastics.com.au/

The correct colour for GTS fascias is Dulon Suede Black.

With the correct tools and ABS rod you get a much neater finish....

Love to see you, Jody, and Leela, and there is always a bed here, If you get a chance I need a HX dash fascia, as the one in our ute is a HZ and has a RTS badge on the dash...I don't know why they would have changed this, but I will give it too you in exchange for a HX plus some $$ obviously...

    Cheers J

Cool, righto.. What do you do with the fascia?? Just put it in the pellets or do you have to put some liquid in with the pellets to make a solution???

I will be trying to get some of the correct paint for it.. I would be over the moon if mine will come up half as good as yours..

    Thanks for the help mate..
    Cheers,

The caustic soda is in small beaded pellets about 2mm round so it is less likely to blow onto your skin or face. You need to dilute it in water according to the directions on the label in a plastic container big enough to emerse the fascia in and let it soak for a couple of weeks. This strips all the paint from the fascia.

I can get the correct Suede Black and also Portland Grey paint for the GTS fascias in spray cans from my local paint shop for $30 per can and can post them to you if you have trouble getting it locally, just let me know.

A plastic welder, dremmel tool with an assortment of attachments and some ABS welding rod and plenty of time and patience and you will get them as good as mine. Being good with a spray gun and an eye for masking up comes in handy also.....

Bottom one is yours Mook. I am going skiing for a week tomorrow but when I get back I will finish your gauges and send the lot to you. I had a hard time finding a hobby shop with white and red enamel paint for the dials but finally got some last week in Geelong. Your Temp gauge is also burnt out but I have located a replacement for it....... hope you got lots of cash.. LOL

How's the green machine going? looking good in your avatar.
