hey mate , good to see you have a proper go of things yourself.
had a read through excellent project well done.

the back of hz combo gauge has a red link wire that goes between the two red 5v pins. (on mine) just pulled it apart a week ago. asume is right, gauges were working before i stripped them. can get you a photo if you need. see if that helps. cheers

Thanks mate!! Yeah, my HZ gauges have the posts for the red wiring, but no wiring!! lol A photo would be a great help.. also, do you know where the red wires go into?? Into the gauge wiring harness or somewhere else???

    Thanks for the help.

not sure exactlly which red wires you mean. if you mean the red 5v pins then they just have a short wire (4 inch long) with a plug each end going from one 5v pin to the other 5v pin and not connected to anything else. and on my loom theres three other wires, blue, green and tan and they went to the pins with those colours written next to pins. other than that, (i pulled loom out of box) and cant find any other red wires that go to fuel, temp etc gauges. let us know how you get on. im far from an expert but do have dash and loom out at minute and can have a look for you.

I have finally got the gauges back from the instrument shop... The speedo is pretty good, but I did notice that the trip meter wasn't turning back to 0.. I pulled the cover off it, and sure enough the shop had put 3 stainless steel washers over the push stick of the trip meter.. The washers were fouling on the frame of the speedo and not allowing the thing to turn back to 0..

So I removed the washers, and it worked perfectley..

They also fixed the wiring issue.. The fulla that did the work owned a HZ with the GTS gauges in it.. He had a look at it, and the two 'Red 5V' posts just link together.. lol Simple fix!! So they did that for me and also replaced a few blown globes.

They gauges now have their new lenses, and are in the car and hooked up (minus the tacho and the clock..) and am now just waiting for the fascia to finish stripping and then it should finally be installed!!

    --- Updated ---

Thanks for all the help people!! Hopefully it all works, I will know once the gearbox is back in and I can start the engine up!
    Cheers,
    Matt
