part number 2817164 (5mm black sports type steering wheel) is listed in the HZ parts manual as use prior to ADR 25a.

part number 92003716BA (3mm black sports type steering wheel) is listed in the HZ parts manual as use with ADR 25a

part number 92003716BA is also listed as superseding part number 2817164
Quite often when introducing new parts for ADR compliance, it can be done way ahead depending on existing stocks of the necessary parts at the time. There are many cases in Holden production where ADR items were introduced into production ahead of the required legal date. They could have exhausted the stocks of 5mm steering wheels in say Sept 1977 & began fitting 3mm wheels 5 months ahead of time, yet these cars would have still remained legal.

Also AFAIK the ADR25a intro date was Feb 78 (not Jan), at that time AHZ became BHX & CLX became DLX.

Thus the reason why I said you can't put too much credence in the parts manuals. You need collative information from various sources before you can claim to have it nutted.

They did introduce the new steering wheel early.

    ADR-10b ... Steering columns
    Effective date 1st Jan 1973. Revised July 1977 - effective date 1st July 1988

Holden made the change effective from 1st Jan 1978 at the same time as ADR-25a. So 6mths early.

As I have stated, I have generally found parts manuals to be pretty accurate with change dates when the date of change is actually listed in the manual. This is certainly the case with Ford.

I don't claim to have it nutted out but until someone comes up with proof otherwise I will go with the manual as to a change date of Jan 78. You have to start somewhere.

Would anybody have the plastic horn fitting boss for the HZ Sandman for sale? I have the wheel and horn assembly but the plastic adapter is broken and the lion horn badge is missing. TIA!
