Taken from the Imperial Blasting web site down Newcastle way.

    Automotive
    Ball Park Pricing Guide
Please note that these prices are a guide only and each job is quoted individually.
We offer these prices only to help you with your project budget plan.
Prices are for Soda/Plastic blasting services carried out in our workshop.
inc fine mineral abrasive blasting of rust effected areas.
Please note, we rarely use plastic blast media, however should you have a particular desire we can use it on your vehicle, at least 3 weeks notice is required as we may need to order it in (prices may also be slightly higher).
Prices are based on standard sized vehicle such as XY Falcon, HQ Monaro, Charger, etc.
Smaller cars such as Escorts, Fiats, Datsuns, etc will be slightly cheaper and naturally larger vehicles
such as Cadillacs, Kombi, Impala, etc will be slightly dearer.

Body shell only rolling (NO bolt on panels) everything you can see with the car on it's wheels $1500 - $1800
Body shell on rotisserie (ours or yours) completely inside and out and underneath $2500
bolt on panels, doors, gaurds, nose cones $130ea
Ute tail gate and panel van lift up tail gate $110 - $130
Boot lid & Bonnets if possible in fine abrasive $180 - $250
    Door jams only $80 ea
    Engine bay Strip $350 - $450
    Alloy Wheels $35 - $60ea
Please ask for a quote on your particular vehicle, panel or part $P.OA

    * Some vehicles (mostly European) have been found to have a rubber like sealer on the undercarriage that can not be blasted off as easily as other materials.
Vehicles that have these coatings may incur extra charges, however we would fully discuss this with you prior to commencing work. Any additional costs would be minimal.

    * There will be a $100 surcharge for fabrication of rotisserie brackets on rare vehicles where we are unlikely to re-use the brackets, e.g Lamborghini, Ferrari, Datsun 120Y, etc.
There is no extra charge on common vehicles like Falcons, Monaros, Mustangs, or anything we already have brackets for, feel free to check on with us if you have any queries.

Please note that we are able to blast your car with fine abrasive, which is CHEAPER than soda blasting and therefore will reflect in the final costing of your job.

Is it possible to unpick the complete quarter panel off a ute to put on another one? Are the taiwanese copies that come up on ebay from time time any good?

Yes, just takes a lot of time and patience drilling out all the spot welds. Buy a spot weld cutter, they are around $50 for a 6mm one but well worth the investment.

Thanks, might give it a go, got some surface rust from stick on rubber protection strips right along one quarter that is probably nearly right through.

the quarter panels for utes or vans that come up on ebay are genuine items as there was never a knock off copy done for them...

I hope you have a big arsed compressor to run the air sander..... otherwise you'll be stopping a lot to let the compressor catch up .... they use a lot of air.

Sander worked fine, I know what you mean about using a lot of air but the compressor keeps up ok.

I'm really interested in how the gutters are welded in and the best way to 'cut them out'.
Also where are the quarter panel joins?

I guess we'll find out soon enough.

Has anyone used paint stripper on their cars? What's your experience with it?
