You wouldn't bother shortening a housing, just use a VB-VK 10-bolt housing and axles with HQ-WB mounts welded on. You could shorten the HQ-WB housing too and use VB-VK 10-bolt axles, or even 2 x short side VL V8 BW axles.

So if u go with the early commodore diff
Say VK the diff is shorter already. what size rims would fit under the standard wheel arch..
Keeping in mind that i wanna run centreline convo pro's 15x8.5 deep dish..
and what size splines are they..
If you go with the VN Diff what would be the pro's and con's..
i have 15x8.5 simmons on my monaro with the standard 10 bolt diff, no rolled guards and they wont scrape and my son has 14x8 jellybeans on his HQ prem also with a 10 bolt diff . is there any reason you want a commodore diff ? if you are worried about your tyres hitting the guards then you just need to get the right offset on the wheels

in my opinion, pros- disc brakes mainly, easier to find/cheaper for different ratios/lsds, if you break it parts are cheap and everywhere, i just did the whole driveline swap from a vp, motor, 5 spd and diff
cons- need new axles/do a brake upgrade on the front and change to commy pattern, but then rims will be something to consider, need to brake lines changed frommetric to imperial to join the 2 systems, bit of messing around making a jig etc etc

Thanks for the info
I wanna run 15x8.5 deep dish convo pro's, Had a look at the different ideas..
Think i might go with the vn commodore diff setup with the disc brake setup and the 28 spline axles.
you can run 15 x 8.5s with a standard diff width on HQ-WB on rears...
ask for 4. 7/8th inch back space. 4.3/4 backspace would probably fit too. and i haven't tried yet, but 4.5 inch backspace may work as well....
if you wanna go VN + up diff, remember to get the commodore tailshaft so you can use the flange set up on your tailshaft conversion.
