Another one bites the dust.

Went out the farm the other day and someone had asked me if I had any good chassis' to sell so thought I'd check out what I had. Went to look at the one under a burnt HJ van I bought about 10 years ago for it's 9 inch diff, healthy 308 (with possible 327 crank mod) and a few other bits. My mate picks up what's left of the ADR plate and says "check this out, it's almost all melted". All that was left was the 2 bottom corners joined by a very thin strip of alloy. My eyes wander to the left side and spy GVM 1950. Hmmm, eyes right and seat capacity of 2. Uh oh. Look through to the top of the back tailgate and there's the full headlining strip welded into place. Nice neat holes in the pillars for the courtesy light switches too and I've still got the GTS guards that were on it. Bugger! Body plate was completely gone but VIN plate was there. 76 build, 253, from Acacia Ridge so probably was XX7 stamped as well.

Can you send me the VIN and the build date off the plates, plus the number off the chassis. I can reconstruct most of the rest for the records.

Also any evidence of original paint colour and trim colour?

Hi there, I noticed someone asked about the spoiler, if you are cutting the shell up for parts, I'm trying to restore an XX7 HX Van, and I will be needing a headlining strip for the replacement shell (as someone turned ours into a ute in the past).

    cheers steve

Worth your while to check out a wagon head lining strip at the rear of the head liner. I recon they are much the same thing and do the same job as a van. Wagons might be a little easier to come across than a fully lined van.

VIN is 8M70RFH384429J. Build date is gone off the adr plate. I just got 76 out of the VIN. I'll get the chassis number next time I'm out there.

Trim is unsuprisingly all gone. The front cabin pretty much copped the brunt of the flames. As for original paint I haven't had much of a chance to look. Will do that when I get the chassis number. I just went and had a look at the tailgate (which is out in the shed) and under the blue on the inside there is a lot of paint that looks like Papaya. Was that a HX only colour? I'll try inside the tailgate jambs and stuff on the shell. It was reasonably modded with the spoiler, flared guards and decked out interior and it looks as though the outer part of the tailgate was taken back to metal before being repainted the metallic blue.

V6HQUTE ; Spoiler has a fair few cracks in it. If I can get it off in one piece I'll get some photo's.

Steve ; The headlining strip is pretty rusty looking and has a ding where the jib arm went in to lift it on the truck but if I can get it off without it falling apart I'll let you know.

You want the ones down the side more than the rear one. HJ are different to HX-WB on the side strips.

It is a 5/76 build so Papaya would be a normal colour for it. Chassis number will be BHJ25000B give or take a 100 or so. Any headlining remnant will possibly nail the interior colour.
