    Fixing My Dash Fascia...

I decided that out of the 2 GTS dash fascia's neither of them were good enough... So I decided to make 1 good dash out of 2 GTS fascia's and 1 WB kingswood one...

Mine was in worse condition than V6HQUTE's one.. :( Mine was completely smashed around the headlight hole, and the radio area was cut out very badly, the 2 mounting lugs were broken off (bottom left) plus it also had a few cracks under the heater controls... I'll let the before pics do the talking...

I have spent the past 2 days cutting the replacement pieces out and getting them to fit in the fascia.. It is a prick of a job without the right tools... It took me about 8hrs with a hacksaw (often only using the blade..) and 1 file... I got the bits to fit in pretty good, but the radio area still needs a little more work, and then it should be all good...

The 3 dashes that are going to become 1...

I had a bit of a problem with the radio part, with it breaking while I was cutting it... :( But I can bear with it and fix it...

Hopefully tomorrow I can get in and get the headlight switch in like V6HQUTE has done it and atleast the radio bit and the mounting lugs tacked on... If I feel like I'm getting somewhere (and don't want to watch the cricket.. ) I may get the whole lot done...

Anyway, I will put some more pics up when it gets finished...

Ohh, and it is an original GM fascia so it is worth saving...

Sorry Myles... Can't figure out how to "Mention" you.. lol

Makes my repair look like a walk in the park! I used fibreglassing resin (obviously without the glass) behind and t strengthen my repairs and then a thin scrape of bog as I was only cleaning-up the radio hole and a couple of other holes that were in the fascia. Then masked (that took some time - I found a thin roll of pinstriping worked for me) and painted it.

I dips me lid to those plastic welding theirs back together!

    Regards,

    Dave

Yeah, it's not the best or easiest to fix... But it was the best one I had.. And I am keen to try and fix anything.. I am always trying to improve the things I have..

I tried making the repair bits as close as I could and then tack them in with a bit of super glue (on the back) and then use putty/bog on the front, but it didn't work really well... lol

Masking is the fun part!!! Only when you know what your doing though.. I don't mind doing it, cause it has to be precise if you want it to look good... And if it isn't good enough, I would redo again..
    Cheers,
    Matt

For the small faux allen key holes my wife (who does a heap of craft stuff like making cards etc etc) came up with a great idea of using a hole punch with "sticker" type paper (where the backing peels off to leave a sticky backing) and using those to fill the holes so that I didn't get any paint in them.

Knew there was a reason why I married her!

    Worked for me.

Rightio, thanks mate.... I just had a look, and would prefer to do it @V6HQUTE way.. Because it is actually becoming one piece and not being glued or filled into place...

I got a butane torch today, so far it is working pretty well.. I have all the sections put in and tacked in from the rear.. I also started to fill the headlight section, just have to sand it.. It will probably need a small skim of bog before paint, but if I spend more time on it, it may not need it..

Pics will be up later tonight.. I'm off to do some more sanding.. :(
