I have also almost finished the GTS dash fascia..

I sprayed a bit of yellow paint on it to see which areas needed work (it was a bit hard with the whole thing being black..) I then circled the areas that needed a bit of work, and then set out to fix them.. Some will need to have a bit of bog put in, but overall I am happy..

It is almost perfect, but will need a little bit of bog (I'm going to get it tomorrow...) and then it should be like brand new.. I am very very happy with how it has come out considering that it was my first go at it and I did it with a soldering iron.. lol

The join line is just visible in some sections, and I am going to try and get rid of that with some bog.. Hopefully it will work..

I have scuffed up the rest of the dash with fine sandpaper to give the new paint something to stick to..

    Cheers,
    Matt

They don't cost too much new, but I would much prefer to expand my skills and learn to fix it.. Aswell I would prefer to fix a genuine holden item than have an aftermarket item used...

And yes, the cost was a bit much for me at the time that I decided to fix it... I think that I am better off for spending the time and money fixing it myself...
    Cheers,
    Matt

That's starting to look the goods Matt. I recently refurbed another HJ facia (non RTS badge) and it came up much better than I thought it would. Had to rat an old kingswood donor facia for the cig lighter/radio area (which I had to build up to the right height) and I triedmy hand at plastic welding it into position with a soldering iron. I used plastic bumper bar primer as the paint as it adheses well and is almost perfect colour/sheen match for the original black. While I was there I repaired the two top corners where they'd cracked the top 5mm off them by carefullycutting repair sections from the doror dash and welding them in place.

Pretty happy with the result, that much I don't really want to list it (the whole refurbed dash and gauges) on ebay.... Hmmm.... Dilemma....

Thanks mate, it is very satisfying to know that you fixed that and it looks good... I think it will hit me more when it is fitted to the car...

Yeah, it's a shame that you have to wreck other stuff to fix it, but it is better off in the long run to fix the one that is worth more money...

How did you build it up to the right height??? Did you just melt more plastic onto it and then sand it back further??

Yeah, I am pretty happy with my results... I would do it again if it needed to be done, but it is such a slow tedious process... :(

Don't sell it mate, no one will appreciate the work that you put into it... They will probably cut it out to fit a stereo in it.. It will only go up in value, and you can say that you fixed it and saved a genuine holden item from the scrap heap..
    Cheers,
    Matt

Hahahaha, lol... It is good to fix the original stuff... I just think that the original stuff is of a higher quality and I want the best stuff for my car..

Yeah, it doesn't cost too much at all.. Being the car enthusiasts that we are, most of us would have what is needed to do it sitting in the shed..
    Cheers,
    Matt

I started the GTS fascia again because I was not happy with the result of the previous attempt.. lol I lined them up as best as I could and then tacked them in place using the soldering iron, then it was slowly join the pieces together..

Here it is.. It is ten times better than last time, I just need to spend a little more time on it to get it a straight as I can..

    Cheers,

Very noice.... That sort of work takes a lot of patience. I ended-up listing that whole dash that I bought for $220 delivered. Got close to $500 for it, so for around 8-9 hours work at home in my own time (rare with a two year old mini-me running around) I was able to make a tidy profit on it. I used Motorspray plastic bumper bar primer to paint it (almost a prefect match for the original black), came-up pretty good when it was finished with the grey on it too (the lighting makes it look quite light, almost silver).

Cool.. Shame you had to sell it though.. :( I'm in the same position as you.. I'm strapped for time due to full time study and then more study in preparation for my HSC.. I'm just flat chat doing stuff to improve my chances of getting the ATAR that I need to get into uni..

It came up heaps good, and you made a pretty good profit on it as well.. If you don't mind me asking, where did you buy the Motospray plastic bumper bar primer and how much did it cost???
    Cheers,
    Matt
