Hey Harry.
Would be very few Sandmans in Canada!
I sold my old Buick Century in Toronto to some dodgy ticket scalper many years ago. Lived in Saskatchewan for a while.

Howdy, spent my teenage years across the river from Mildura, when the van nats were proper big & loved the scene, had 100's of holdens as bush hacks & a yard full when I had a few acres of my own. I almost cry when I see what people are asking & (getting???) for rusted pieces of snot these days. $50-$100 got you a running FB to HR, 1 or $200 got you a V8 & $500 got you rego, aahhh, those were the days! (sniff, sob cry)
Spent the last 20 years around the Top-end & sick of seeing 4wds, although my blue van embarassed a lot of big money 4x4's in the kimberley.
Currently in the Kimberley with a 60 series land cruiser/V8 chev Diesel trying to decide to;- cut it into a ute,/ newer cruiser /back to a Van or Torana.
Cheers,
Wilko.

Wow, great Holden pics Wilco.
We lived in Broome for 7 years and the pic of the van on the Gibb River Road with the Cockburn Range in the background just took me back in a big way. That country is just epic!!!

Robbo, Big Rob, Vombil, Stickthis, Thanks for the welcomes you mob, pleased to be here & see some great motor-cars getting around still. There's a few people restoring & driving the early stuff up here in kununurra & 1 Sandy that I'm yet to go & see.
damienengland & Jennie285, I was roaring around in the Van here in the mid 90's, lived & worked up the Kalumburu road when it & the Gibb were proper car killers, not the highways (corrugated still) they are now. You'd pull up to help a broken down fully-sik ARB kitted out 4x4 & the first comment usually was "This is a 4wd track, you can't have that here!" The van had 308 & turbo 350 then, I ran with low tire pressures, apart from a few side wall fails the only other thing i did was pull the exhuasts off, I got sick of catching the mufflers on rocks, & ran extractors with short pipes out behind the doors(Kimberley sidepipes) so I didn't gas myself.(no air-con) You could certainly hear it moving & when we were doing early burning on the station it saved matches as I could drive along in the long-grass, give it a foot full, back-off & the flames were impressive. The mix of super,Ulp & avgas(mustering chopper leftovers) probably helped.
I crossed the Pentecost river many times with water over the bonnet, I only ever tarped it once when there had been a storm upstream & it was running pretty fast & dirty, also the King Edward river on the way into the Mitchell falls can be exciting, I've had the van all the way up there too, Things you do to impress a dutch backpacker, I even shaved a zz top beard off,.(aahh, Lust!)
Well that's probably boring & way too much reminiscing, Damien I hope the Lattes were worth the move south & Jennie I hope I didn't miss out on seeing one of your sweet sandys come through (i also sent you a pm,I think, before I'd made any posts, not sure if or how that works)
Cheers & keep up the good work everyone
