has anyone used an adaptor to fit a trimatic to a turbo pattern 308 are they any good or is it better to get the block redrilled ?

get the block drilled..adaptor also involves shortening the tailshaft...
I've had a TH400 behind a trimatic 308 before. Kept breaking converter to flex plate bolts. I wouldn't consider using one again. You could get the trimatic bellhousing modded to fit the TH pattern block.
Fellow would have adaptor housings check them out I was going to go the other way so that I could have the 5 speed. They also do hydraulic clutch conversions. Awesome stuff!
Black WB bodied HZ panelvan with a 400 chev called Frankie :nerviness:

put a chev in it.

the 308 was for my monaro really good motor but turbo pattern and i want to put a 4 spd back in it. the car was a factory 253 but have been quoted $4500 to rebuild it . i have a 350 in my van but that hasnt been good, it was a crate motor put in by previous owner and sitting on 80 kmh one day it dropped a cylinder and started blowing smoke so i am a bit reluctant to throw more money at it
Might just be a valve.
so you are putting a trimatic behind it or a 4 speed?..if its a 4 speed then you just buy the bellhousing..
^^^As above for HQ and HJ, or 2nd half of HZ. Not so easy for HX and early HZ as clutch mechanism attaches to 4spd bellhousing holes so needs further mods.
